Bath Catherine Morland Day

How to Have A Catherine Morland Day in Bath

November 30, 2017 by A Suitcase Full of Books Leave a Comment

If like me, you can’t visit Bath during the annual Jane Austen festival -I desperately would love to attend!- don’t worry! You can still get into character and spend the day pretending to be Catherine Morland.

Author Footsteps: Learn about Jane Austen in Bath

November 8, 2017 by A Suitcase Full of Books Leave a Comment

Jane Austen never really liked Bath, and didn’t do much writing while living there. Despite her disdain, Bath has become one of the more popular destinations for Austen fans. Not only did Austen live in Bath for a time, but she also set scenes in the city in several of her novels. Despite recognizing the absurdity of memorializing the author in a place she was happy to leave, I spent some time visiting several locations in Bath related to Austen and her brilliant heroines, starting with the Jane Austen Centre.

Finding Comfort Across the Globe: Bryson & The Roman Baths

September 9, 2017 by A Suitcase Full of Books Leave a Comment

I’d been feeling nervous and jittery, and beginning to wonder if I’d made an enormous mistake when 4 simple words dispelled my anxiety. Only hours ago I’d arrived in a new city, been introduced to twenty girls with whom I’d spend the next three weeks, and I’d retained the names of exactly zero so far….

London Sherlock Holmes StoryTourist Tour Review
I visited Columbus, Ohio, where I picked up the book My Life and Hard Times by James Thurber from the indepentent bookstore The Book Loft, visited the James Thurber house museum, and Thurber's grave, where a statue of his dog Muggs has been installed.

Thurber was the foremost humor writer of the 20th century and he has some very funny stories that take place in the house that is now a museum and one about his dog Muggs.

I went back to Prince Edward Island, Canada to stay at Dalvay by the Sea because of its Anne connection and instead had an early honeymoon!

Then I spent a week touring wedding venues, the Anne Museum and Green Gables, doing a little golfing, and having a professional photoshoot session.

I read that the best way to get an Instagram reel I read that the best way to get an Instagram reel to trend is to put some meaningful text over a few seconds of film, but as a professional Web Accessibility specialist, I am begging this trend to stop! If you’re going to put text on your video:
1. Make sure you’ve checked the color contrast of the text to your background.
2. Is your text too small? Viewers can’t expand reel images to make the text bigger if they can’t read it.
3. Have you added any text on the image in the caption or alt text incase it can’t be read while watching the video?
Please consider Accessibility guidelines when creating online content of any type!

I used @mixbook to make photo books for my wedding I used @mixbook to make photo books for my wedding trip and my 2017 Open Palace trip to England. The books just arrived and I love them! 😍 I used the Mixbooks software for the wedding album and I used Canva for the England album then copied images downloaded from Canva to Mixbook. Both ways worked pretty well, I feel like I had more options for creativity using Canva. I can’t wait to put together a book of my most recent trip to England! I may have to do this for all major trips from now on.

Not sponsored by Canva or Mixbook (tho if either wanted to sponsor me I wouldn’t say no 😂) Just hoping I can provide a little inspiration for the traveler stuck at home for the time being.

New post on the blog! Making Shakespeare Understan New post on the blog! Making Shakespeare Understandable and Enjoyable in Stratford-Upon-Avon
While visiting Stratford-Upon-Avon with @hayleysolano's Enchanted Book Club, my goal was to make Shakespeare understandable and enjoyable. I think I succeeded thanks to our visits to the @shakespearebtrust museums, and with a little help from @sparknotes_ during our outing to see Macbeth at the @thersc Theater.

My blog post about visiting Oxford with @hayleysol My blog post about visiting Oxford with @hayleysolano's Enchanted Book Club got quite long, but I think if you start reading it now you should just be able to finish it by the time my next post comes out tomorrow! Kidding... kind of.
Are you a fantasy genre junkie? Which Oxford prof would you rather have taken a class from, Tolkein, Lewis, or Carroll?

The last time I visited Bath, England, there was a The last time I visited Bath, England, there was a lot of playing dress-up in Regency attire to pretend we'd stepped back into Jane Austen's 1800s. After C-vid though, I had no interest in touching the play clothes in the museums! So this time while I visited with @hayleysolano's Enchanted Book Club, I challenged myself to "modernly" follow in Jane Austen's footsteps, and it turned out better than expected!
