  • Just got my first vaccine shot (Moderna)!!! Thank you @searhc!
  • This whole talking to the camera vlog type was quite the challenge! It took me a full day to film 15 minutes worth of coherent sentences! 🤣 This vlog is a look back at the books that have taken me around the world since starting the blog in 2015. This vlog is full of video clips I’ve never used before, and even a few seconds of Harry Potter 😲! I hope you’ll enjoy the vlog as much as I did putting it together. Let me know what you think!

  • I’m a little ashamed to admit I wasn’t exactly familiar with what it was Elizabeth Peratrovich was famous for...so I picked up Fighter in Velvet Gloves and was so happy it was written for a YA audience so it was an easy, quick read, and not boring like many biographies can be!
I had been contemplating trying to make a walking tour vlog of downtown Juneau locations related to Peratrovich, but with everything closed, I turned to the computer... and found I could do the whole “walk” from home! Celebrate Elizabeth Peratrovich Day (today- Feb. 16) by taking the virtual walking tour found on the blog!

  • Want a little Alaska book package?
Finn and I tried to do my first YouTube giveaway and wasn’t very clear... I’m giving away the book A Wolf Called Romeo and a bag of @heritagecoffee Black Wolf Blend to 1 person! Leave a comment on the vlog and I’ll randomly select 1 commenter on March 1. Watch to the end of the vlog to find out what to comment!

This giveaway is not sponsored by anybody. I just thought it would be fun to send an AK care package while travel to AK is still limited.

  • Finn inspired me to share with you two amazing Juneau dog tales that have been turned into books. Checkout the vlog to watch Finn take us around Juneau! He’s definitely in the running to be the next Wishbone.
And watch to the end of the VLOG for a GIVEAWAY!

  • Paris is always a good idea.
I finally invested in a full length jewelry cabinet so now I can actually see and access my collection which includes this charm bracelet with the Eiffel Tower I got in Paris. Does that make me #rengarde? Do you collect anything specific when you travel? Perhaps I should go back to charms because they take up less space than books... 😁

  • Growing up, every day for me was Holocaust Remembrance Day because I knew I was lucky that both my grandparents had survived the Holocaust. They never ever talked about their experiences though so instead I read a lot of books like Number the Stars and The Devil’s Arithmetic, trying to understand what it was they had lived through. Thankfully, my grandfather decided to write up his story in his self-published book, 1944 A Leap Year. It’s an incredible story of daring escapes, lucky breaks, and infused with his humor. And I think I can safely say, it’s the best Holocaust book on the (Amazon) market.

  • Have you tried a VR device?? Did you know you can tour some authors’ houses by virtual reality?? I walked around The Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, and Anne Frank houses all from home! Check out today’s blog post to read about my experience!

  • Years ago when Sharon Kay Penman was coming through Seattle for her book tour I was so excited to see my favorite author that I mentioned in her Facebook fan club I was flying from AK to see her. She saw my post and another from a lady flying in from Victoria and at her book reading she announced she’d brought 2 cupcakes because she felt so bad that at least two of us had flown so far to see her! She called my name and I froze and turned bright red. @akfoodguy had to push me towards the front of the room. I was so star struck!

Yesterday when I read Penman passed away I burst into ugly sobbing. @akfoodguy asked if this was an ice cream level sorrow and I facetiously told him this was more of a full tray of cupcakes situation.

This morning @tunacanoe surprised me by dropping off a full tray of cupcakes! So let’s all raise a cupcake to Sharon and if you need me I’ll be deep in Outremer. But I don’t think I’ll finish this book today, because I’m not ready to face finishing the last of Penman’s books just yet.

  • I am absolutely gutted that my favorite author, Sharon Kay Penman, passed away today. Her books were the reason I chose to be a History major in college. I recommend Sharon’s books to everybody I meet. I traveled to Leicester, England because of one of Sharon’s books. I dreamed of traveling with her next time she did her Eleanor trip in France. I am struggling to imagine not waiting for her next novel to come out. And I am so thankful I went to Seattle to meet her when she did her A King’s Ransom book tour. She even brought me a cupcake because she felt bad that I’d traveled so far to see her!

Here’s the blog post I wrote about meeting SKP:

And here’s the one I wrote about my trip to the Richard III museum after reading The Sunne in Splendour:
